Perspective of a non-geek

A Stormtrooper guarding a desk

"You get tired of it on the long run unless you love development". I hear this strong opinion among developers quite often. I like web development a lot. I fancy crafting something from scratch to solve real world problems. I don't love it though.

What I love doing is not viable for multiple reasons. However, that doesn't stop me from consistently striving for a higher quality delivery and upskilling in my free time. That's how I up my value proposition to potential clients and employers. An increased value proposition means a higher income. A higher income means I'm able to afford doing what I love in parallel.

Ultimately, I believe doing what one loves would be ideal but logistically speaking, it's not possible for most of us. So, my take on it is to make the best out of the opportunity, i.e. learn from the best, enroll in courses, attend development conferences, network with people in the industry, ask for help. That's basically how I navigate the web development landscape.

You don't have to love it. Just learn to like it enough.
